Mission High School’s first student body government has been elected!
On Friday, September 20th, around 250 students from all grades voted for their new president and other officials.
“I feel like the election results were good, because every section had students that were good for that position; everyone has their qualification that’s good for community building. Del will make a great Senior Class President because she’s very smart and a good leader, and the same goes for Shane and Kaeloni. The representatives for eleventh grade were good, everyone seemed qualified. The election itself was a good community building to go to vote. There were so many people; Ms Wilson, the tenth grade counselor, said there were over 250 votes.” –Hina Branner, Student Body Historian
Student Body President: Shayne West
“…I’m not even here to just control everything, I don’t really want you to see me as the President, just see me as a person that is here to just help the school.”
Senior Class President: Da’Liah (Del) Blazer
Student Body Vice-President: Isabella Sanchez
Student Body Treasurer: Kaeloni Reagan
Student Body Secretary: Celia Hernandez
“I was running for secretary. I initially wanted to run for vice president, but I thought it would be a lot of work, and treasurer… definitely not, I’m not the best at math. I thought secretary would be the best for me… (it was just) organizing meetings, tracking meetings, taking notes and being there for the meetings. When I won, I went through a whole range of emotions. I signed up to be in Mission Leadership, but they changed it to student government, so I thought that if I lost, I’d at least volunteer to help the school. But when I opened the email, and I won, I was so excited.” –Celia Hernandez
Student Body Historian: Hina Branner
“I was kind of scared about the election results because Ms. Wilson sent the email pretty late. I was kind of nervous about the results, even though I thought I was the only person running. (I later found out that I wasn’t the only one running; Eridan also ran, so he became a 12th grade rep). I’m really excited to be a historian, I’d say I’m pretty qualified. A historian works in collaboration with Mission AV, working in collaborations with sports teams and assemblies, recording videos, and I’m excited to work with them. I love animating and put a lot of creativity into my work; I think if someone were to see my work, they’d know it was me.” –Hina Branner
12th grade reps: Mariana Aguilar, Tysir Awadalla, Yogi, Naomi Perez, Owen Isbister, Eridan Collis
11th grade Reps: Camille Ng, Cesar Roque, Alex Garcia, Cassieon Cannon, Ester Marroquin
“I’m a class representative. Me and a bunch of other class representatives meet to make up goals for the school. I ran with the purpose of assisting the president, running as vice president. When it came to resources, they were quite equitable; if you needed help, they could give it to you so you could run. My friend, Shayne West, who became the president, had goals, he had a plan (of how to run), and it paid off. I’m happy for everyone who got elected and excited to see what general direction they’d take the school. As a class representative, I hope to find new and interesting ways to remedy our school issues, such as adding more incentives to being in school on time to increase attendance rates. I’m excited to see the direction all the class representatives steer the school in.” ーCesar Roque
10th grade reps: Julian Rodriguez, Angelina Jiang, Evangelina Miranda
9th grade reps: Laniyah Rodriguez, Alexandra Mejias, Melody Hatch
Isaiah Dantzler, a key organizer for the student government, says “Thank you everyone for participating.”
We’ll see what changes this student body government will bring to this school year.
