One evening Mr. Logan got a message from one of his friends, asking if he could help him and take care of his son who had autism, while he went to work. Mr. Logan, being the kind person he is, agreed. The more time he spent with the kid the more curious he grew. He started researching about people with disabilities and all the struggles they have faced due to their lack of education. When he found out about the many times the education system failed them, he knew he had to do something about it. He’d studied social work, but never knew what he wanted to be, and that’s when it hit him: what if he became an educator? What if he became the pillar of support that these kids needed?
Mr. Logan is a very kind and creative person. He’s attentive to what his students need and I think he’s a good person to talk to. He’s been working at Mission High School since 2019, but as an educator since 2008.
When asked if he was faced with the opportunity of having any job in the world he stated, “One, if I keep with the education piece I would love to do more work in the field of AAC (communication devices).” AAC are devices that look fairly similar to a tablet that Mr. Logan’s students use on a daily basis to make it easier to communicate. This just shows how he truly cares about his work and what he’s doing, mostly because he is finding another way to help people with disabilities.
Mr. Logan gets along well with his students. On rougher days he maintains his patience and shows interest in what his students like by putting what they’re into, into their activities. Overall, with six paraeducators in his class, they collectively demonstrate respect to their students and strive to provide them with optimal support.
When questioned about his most notable strengths , he responded by stating that he can, “pivot quickly, like sometimes you’re trying to do a lesson and you see that the student is not into it, maybe we pivot to a different activity. And I guess being flexible and patient.” You can tell that he really pays attention to his students and you can see why these are his strengths.
Mr. Logan is a very creative person with his hobbies being soft ball, building legos, (he said he got into it during the pandemic), rollerblading, hanging out with friends, and crafting. Also in his class they have Fun Friday, where they do lots of fun activities. I think that his creativity also shows in his class.
When I asked him if he could have any superpower in the world he said one of them would have to be social justice, that with the snap of his finger somewhere justice will be served. I found that very interesting, mostly because I’ve never heard of a power like that.
Overall Mr. Logan seems like a very friendly person who’s creative and silly. I would definitely recommend you talk to him, since he’s an interesting individual and would probably appreciate the company.
