If you’re looking for fresh, delicious pizza with a welcoming vibe, try out Déjà Vu, located in the heart of San Francisco’s Mission District, on 16th Street between Guerrero and Dolores.
Since 1999, Déjà Vu has been serving pizzas. This family-owned gem has built a loyal following with its made-from-scratch pizzas, friendly atmosphere, and dedication to making people’s days better. The owners, who are incredibly sweet and passionate about their work, truly go above and beyond to make everyone feel welcome.
I spoke with the owners, Sak Hsek and Aung Kyi, and they shared how much they love making their customers’ days brighter. They also gave me a personal tour of the kitchen.
“It’s not just about serving great food. It’s about creating a positive experience that keeps people coming back,” Mr. Kyi said. It’s hard not to experience their kindness.
A Journey of Passion and Dedication
Founded by a family from Myanmar (formerly Burma), Déjà Vu began when the owner, Mr. Kyi, who started as a pizza delivery driver, fell in love with the art of pizza-making. His passion for delivering the best pizza led to the creation of Déjà Vu, where every pizza is made fresh, never frozen or refrigerated. I even had the opportunity to see how pizza is made in the kitchen. It’s this commitment to quality that has made Déjà Vu a local favorite.
A Huge Menu to Satisfy Every Craving
While pizza is the star of the show, Déjà Vu offers much more than just a slice. Their menu includes pasta, calzones, wings, bread, salads, and even veggie pizzas.
I highly recommend trying the “San Franciscan” slice, a fan favorite that features bell peppers, pepperoni, sausage and mushrooms.
Déjà Vu is also soon to be releasing homemade sourdough bread, which is sure to be another hit with customers. I was offered a trial bite and it was crusty on the outside and soft on the inside.
A Vision for the Future
Looking forward, Déjà Vu plans to continue evolving while staying true to its roots. With ideas to remodel the space and integrate modern technology, the owners are committed to keeping the restaurant a staple in the community for years to come. They hope to one day pass the business down to their son, ensuring that Déjà Vu will continue to serve fresh pizza to future generations.
