So cold and yet so beautiful.
The snow brings many pleasant experiences, from skiing down mountains pillowed with white powder to friends throwing snowballs at each other. The ambiance of snowfall is one of the most fun forecasts someone can experience.
While many have already experienced this, some people have gone their entire youth or even their entire lives without seeing a drop of snow. This is where Mission High School’s Snow Club comes in.
On Lunar New Year of 2025, January 29, at 5:00 am, Mission High School’s Snow Club organized a day trip to Lake Tahoe to visit the snow for snowboarding and skiing. They embarked on a road trip to Boreal Mountain Resort.
Kids who had never seen snow before were the priority of the club. Getting these kids to finally see snow was the goal of the two club presidents, Juniors Sasha Scott and Lyla Van Sant.
They held countless fundraisers and bake sales to raise money for the club. Many members brought drinks, brownies, cookies, and pizza to support the club.
Sasha, the Snow Club Co-President, said, “We raised about $4,000.”
This large sum of money was used to take 32 kids to Tahoe and purchase each of them rental skis and snowboards, rental gear, and a lift ticket. The snowboards they provided were extremely high quality with step-in bindings that would make the learning experience a lot easier.
Owen Isbister, a senior and a member of the Snow Club, was asked about his experience on the trip and with the club as a whole.
“I had skateboarded before, but yes, this was my first time snowboarding. Even while I was sick, I still had a lot of fun.”
“Thank you Snow Club. Good job guys,” Owen added.
“I believe the trip was a great success as everyone had a great time and nobody got hurt,” said Sasha.
Everyone is excited to see what the club comes to bring next year. Sasha plans to start earlier next year to raise more money for an improved experience.
After everyone was done skiing, snowboarding, and playing in the snow, the entire group went to a burger joint called Ikedas as a pit stop on the way back to San Francisco. The place provided free drinks to the Club in addition to the tasty burgers.
I had a great time with Snow Club and the trip. Even the fundraisers were a fun experience. The trip was amazing in my opinion. I was able to get seven to nine runs in on the slope and had a great time snowboarding with my friends. I would totally recommend you try to join if you can.
With little traffic, no snow storms, and an empty resort, the long-anticipated trip was a big success and everyone returned home with the amazing experience of snow, friends, and fun.
