I recently went to see Mufasa: The Lion King with a friend. This new Lion King movie is an absolute must-see for anyone looking for a heartwarming and entertaining movie. It’s perfect for both a fun time with friends or family. There’s great storytelling and an immersive plot.
The movie shows a take on Mufasa’s early years. It depicts how he grew up, lost his family, and eventually found a new lion pack that took him in.
The heart of the movie revolves around Mufasa’s bond with one of the lion cubs from the new pack. His name is Scar and Scar helps him get through a series of challenges. Without giving away too much, it’s safe to say that people will be on the edge of their seats as the story takes a twist at the end.
*Spoiler alert: Scar becomes the villain because of his deep jealousy and bitterness towards Mufasa. When he was younger, Scar was close to Mufasa and took Mufasa in as a brother, but over time he felt overlooked and jealous of his brother figure. People looked up to Mufasa. Scar’s feelings of being unloved and unwanted grew stronger so he betrayed his brother.
I feel like Scar started to become hateful towards Mufasa when a girl lion, Nala, became involved. Scar had feelings for Nala and was showing interest towards her, but Nala didn’t like Scar; she liked Mufasa, a definite plot twist.*
What stands out most is the songs in the movie that bring the story to life in a way that feels almost like a musical.
One track that stands out to me is “What Did You Say About My Brother?” a catchy song that has even gone viral on social media.
While the movie is entertaining and action-packed, the story also has some emotional heart-to-heart moments.
The ending takes a bittersweet turn when Mufasa finally reunites with his family and experiences great loss.
Overall, I would rate this movie an 8/10. There was not a dull moment. It’s entertaining, appropriate, and a great watch for anyone who’s a fan of the original Lion King or simply looking for an adventure. I definitely recommend it.
Mufasa: The Lion King is still in theaters or you can purchase it for streaming.
