Nice to meet you all. I come from Jiangmen, China. Jiangmen is in the countryside.
I studied in China all the way until the 13th grade. Before I finished 13th grade, we moved to the United States. My aunt applied for us to come to the United States more than ten years ago. My sister also applied for us to come here.
Because my relatives have lived in the United States for more than ten years, and, for some, more than 20 years, my parents and I were able to come to the United States as a family of three.
My family and I can’t communicate in English. We rely on our relatives to help us live.
When I first arrived, I lived in my grandmother’s house, not in San Francisco.
The United States is a perfect country in my imagination, but it is really different from China.
I am very lucky that I am old enough to go to high school. I take the bus to school every day. It takes almost an hour to get here.
When I came here to register with the help of my uncle, I was one month away from turning 18, but I am over 18 now. I have been in the United States for two months now, but just recently started school. I have been studying in this school for three weeks.
I am not sure I will continue to study here. I may go to adult school.
It is really difficult to communicate with you without knowing English.
The scenery here is very beautiful. I have only been to Chinatown, Fisherman’s Wharf, and a large supermarket. I don’t know which supermarket or where it is located, because I don’t know English. My cousin took me there.
I went to Fisherman’s Wharf with my mother and uncles and aunts. When I went to Fisherman’s Wharf, I saw many white cranes and sea lions. People on the roadside were showing their talents, such as magicians singing. I also saw the ferris wheel when I passed by. I wanted to ride it, but I didn’t because of time so I just walked around.
My family accompanied me and my mother because my father had to go to work and had no time to accompany my father.
My father works in a restaurant in Chinatown. My mother has not been in a good mood recently and my grandmother was sick and had been hospitalized for two months. Every Friday after school, I go to my grandpa’s house with my mother because my grandma is sick and needs company.
I don’t have much time to play here, and I’m not familiar with the place. We don’t dare to go out.
In fact, I miss my China a lot during these past two months because I lived in China for more than ten years but had never traveled in China before. I always stayed in my hometown of Jiangmen to go to school.
I chat with my Chinese friends every day. They miss me very much and ask me when I will return.
Because I was a relatively good student at my school in China, my teachers were reluctant to let me go and took a photo of me. My Chinese teachers also hope that I will go back to the campus to visit them.
I was a relatively cheerful and lively person in China who actively helped students. I liked to help teachers organize materials. I lived in the dormitory and became an excellent member of the dormitory association.
English is so different from Chinese. I have only been studying here for a short time, and I am new. But I want to understand what the teachers and students are talking about. I know it takes time to learn.
If I speak Chinese, my teachers and classmates don’t know what I am saying. It is really difficult for me to communicate right now. I have to rely on my classmates to translate for me, which is also troublesome.
I can’t even go out to buy things. I have to rely on my family, relatives and friends for help.
This year, I want to learn more English.I have to continue to study to complete my high school graduation. From unfamiliar to familiar, English is not good, and it is really difficult for my parents to translate.
During this year of study, I want to enhance my communication skills. My goals are to keep reading, keep exercising, maintain good eating habits, learn English well, and eventually become a kindergarten teacher in the future.
