What started as a last-minute decision became a night to remember. I secured two tickets for $170 to the Warriors vs. Grizzlies play-in game and arrived at Chase Center late in the first quarter, just in time to witness the intensity of one of the most electric games of the season.
The atmosphere was incredible from the moment I walked in. Each seat had a Play-In shirt draped over it, creating a sea of gold throughout the arena. The energy was high, and even though I missed the opening minutes, the crowd was already fully locked in.
Stephen Curry and Jimmy Butler led the charge for Golden State. Curry delivered a stellar performance with 37 points, including six three-pointers and a perfect 13-for-13 from the free-throw line. Butler contributed a game-high 38 points, along with seven rebounds and six assists. Their combined efforts were instrumental in building a substantial lead by halftime.
However, the Grizzlies mounted a fierce comeback in the fourth quarter, narrowing the gap and putting the outcome in jeopardy. Foul trouble became a significant issue. Draymond Green fouled out. The call was met with disbelief, as it appeared to be a questionable decision, sparking frustration throughout the arena. The entire crowd was on their feet, yelling “Ref, you suck!” Shortly after, Scottie Pippen Jr. also fouled out, and Zach Edey was on the brink with five fouls.
Ja Morant had to sit out for a brief period after getting hurt, but fortunately, he was able to return to the game and continued to be a key part of Memphis’ push in the second half.
Then came the game-changing moments. Curry hit a huge three-pointer right in Scottie Pippen Jr.‘s face, and the entire arena knew at that moment that the game was essentially over. It felt like a statement shot. Curry’s confidence was shining through and you could sense the energy shift as the fans erupted, realizing the Warriors were about to lock this one down.
The Grizzlies got even closer in the final moments, but the Warriors defense stepped up big-time. With just seconds left, Golden State forced a crucial turnover when Memphis failed to get the ball inbounds within five seconds, resulting in a violation. The whole arena went wild as the Dubs got the ball back, knowing that the victory was all but secured.
The game ended with the Warriors narrowly escaping a near-collapse, holding off the Grizzlies in a thrilling 121-116 finish. From Curry’s standout performance to the raw emotion in the building, it was a reminder of how unpredictable and intense the play-in tournament can be.
Walking out of the arena, I knew the $170 was well spent. Even showing up late, the experience was unforgettable: a perfect mix of high-stakes basketball, playoff energy, and a game that kept everyone on the edge of their seats until the final buzzer.
