Joy and surprise at the 2023 Oscars
March 17, 2023
The Oscars happened! The award ceremony began with a heartwarming win for Best Supporting Actor Ke Huy Quan, his first Oscar winning for the film “Everything Everywhere All at Once.” Immediately following, his co-star Jamie Lee Curtis won for Best Supporting Actress. What a wonderful year of Oscar wins for “Everything Everywhere All at Once” bringing home seven awards!
Another shocking number of Oscars won has to be for “All Quiet on the Western Front” winning four Oscars out of nine nominations. I have to say I hadn’t heard much about this film before the Oscars, but just by watching the clips they played of that movie and the number of Oscar wins inspired me to watch the movie and I agree. It was truly a great film.
One thing that came to no surprise to me was when “Avatar: The Way of Water” won the Oscar for best visual effects. I mean, come on, they did an amazing job with all of the effects in that movie and it blew the minds of many people.
One thing that did very much surprise me was the fact that “Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio” film won over the “Puss in Boots: The Last Wish” movie. Considering that “Puss in Boots: The Last Wish” was a movie loved by many people.
While people won their awards some people got cut off from saying their entire speech which I thought was very rude considering an Oscar is a big moment in someone’s life.
Both Lady Gaga and Rihanna performed since both of their songs were nominated for Best Song in the Oscars. Lady Gaga performed the song “Hold My Hand” that was used in the movie “Top Gun Maverick” and Rihanna performed “Lift Me Up” used in the movie “Wakanda Forever.” Though the song that actually won for Best Song was called “Naatu Naatu” from the movie RRR. I hadn’t heard much of this movie, but they did perform the song and it was really fun.
The winner for Best Actor this year was Brendan Fraser for the movie “The Whale” and let me just say by just watching the trailer in that movie it really looks like his acting was amazing. I haven’t watched this movie yet, but it is definitely on my list. Now the person who won best actress was Michelle Yeoh for “Everything Everywhere All At Once.” She is the first Asian actress to win the award for Best Actress and she is 61 years old. Let me just say I think she definitely earned that Oscar for her incredible work in that movie and I have heard amazing things about that film and her acting.
Now finally the film that won best picture is “Everything Everywhere All At Once” which I can say I know a lot of people who loved this movie, but there were some people I met that didn’t like the film that much. I haven’t watched this film yet, but I have watched the trailer and it truly does look like an incredible movie and I mean come on it won for Best Picture along with seven other significant awards, so I will definitely be watching this movie.
