They say history repeats itself but I beg to differ. I like to think that there’s different types of history that aren’t meant to repeat themselves but instead, start a new chapter. A chapter in which we can break generational cycles. My history teacher, Ms.Rodriguez, gives me hope for the future.
Nancy Gladys Rodriguez was born in El Salvador. Ms. Rodriguez would describe herself as hardworking, a supporter of women rights and civil justice, and someone committed to the community. She puts all her strength and energy into what she believes in since it’s not talked about enough and loves nothing more but to be a member of a community she can give back to.
“Nothing is more beautiful than having a classroom full of kids and teaching them about our history. I want nothing more but to explain why it matters and why it’s so important to our generation now,” said Ms. Rodriguez.
Ms. Rodriguez doesn’t stick to one history, but expands history.
Not every classroom is perfect and mistakes lead to learning opportunities. Ms.Rodriguez tries her best to provide a safe space for them. Students can come to her and ask her questions when needed. She gives one-on-one support and offers a safe space for students to eat lunch.
It’s a safe, loving, kind classroom.
Ms. Rodriguez chose to work at Mission High School. She loves that MHS is part of the Mission community and Ms. Rodriguez coordinates events for the community. She is the adviser for the Ole Club.
She likes to help others and she has seen so many people help her with her events.
“I love hard working students from a good humble school and seeing how events bring people together.”
Ms. Rodriguez is outdoorsy whether it’s walking, exercising, hiking, playing basketball, or doing a little bit of dancing.
But one thing that Ms. Rodriguez loves more than anything is her family and friends. She loves spending time with them, listening to music, and eating together. There is nothing more important to her than family.
That is who Ms. Rodriguez is.
