How to Make Arepas

For Venezuelans, arepas are more than a food. It is a tradition in Venezuela and identifies us as Venezuelans. I would like the arepa culture to reach many countries and for people to try the food of Venezuela. It is a very versatile food since it can be eaten with different fillings of your choice. There is no exact measurement of how to prepare the arepas, it all depends on the person’s preference and taste.

Ingredients:

One bowl

One pan

2 cups of Harina Pan

½  teaspoon of salt

1 tablespoon oil

½ cup of warm water

Butter

Steps:

Step 1: Pour water into a bowl.

Step 2: Add a teaspoon of salt.

Step 3: Mix the ingredients with your hands.

Step 4: Add harina pan.

Step 5: Mix the ingredients until you have a consistency similar to playdough.

Step 6: Knead the dough and form 4-6 balls, each about the size of the palm of the hand.

Step 7: Squish the balls with your palms until each arepa is one inch thick.

Step 8: Heat the pan and add oil. Wait around seven minutes for the oil to heat up.

Step 9: Place the arepas on the pan and flip them when the bottom becomes golden brown.

Step 10: Flip it on its other side and wait until it turns golden brown.

Step 11: Serve it right away with butter and add any ingredients you like.

And what would you like to eat your arepa with? For example, I like it with ham and yellow cheese or with ground meat. Since you know the steps, would you dare to make an arepa?
