While some people have just met Ms. Sara Mokhtari Fox, I have known her for four years. As a new health teacher in Mission High School, Ms. Mokhtari is unique, not only in her teaching, getting her ideas, and how she found her own ways of teaching, but also in her passion for helping every student she meets. An outgoing person who likes going out in nature, to beaches or lakes to swim, she is a teacher who supports every idea students have.
You will always find Ms. Mokhtari in classroom 327, teaching students and planning her classes. You can always go up to her classroom, which she has open for everyone. Some details about her is that she grew up in Berkeley, California, and her inspiration on starting to teach was how she struggled a lot in school and had hard times. She had amazing and helpful teachers helping her out and motivating her. Lastly, she wants change in the education system.
As a teacher who has had seven years of teaching experience and has worked with the district of SFUSD for six years, she had one year of student teaching for fifth grade, taught in Buena Vista Horace Mann K-8 for five years, and just recently started teaching health for ninth grade.
Not everything was perfect from the start. When Ms. Mokhtari started teaching it was during the pandemic 2020, and had two years of online teaching like everyone else did. Then, in the three years when everyone returned to school, she had a difficult time developing her curriculum and how she would run her classes.
While getting to know Mission High School, she had been impressed on how teachers care about their students, and she adores every team member she has. She is developing more passion for teaching health. Not only has she taught health, but she used to teach Spanish but didn’t have that much of a passion that she has for health.
At one time she had planned on quitting. Want to know why? She believes every teacher around the world should get paid more than what they are getting paid, and believes it is unfair […] to say teachers should get paid for teaching but don’t increase their payment. This has led teachers to quit something that is part of them, a part that they have a passion for.
You can always think of Ms, Mokhtari as a friend that will always help you in anything you might need, just like she likes hanging out with her friends and eating food with them.
Like she always says, “have fun, be safe and stay healthy”.
