Mr. Bradley, History Teacher, Co-Union Representative and Co-Strike Captain, thought the strike did a wonderful job of bringing staff and the community together in ways that aren’t typically possible. He believes Mission has grown stronger as a community, making it easier to band together when the time comes — something he thinks will be beneficial in the future. He also said the strike could help other unions negotiate successfully, since employers now know that workers aren’t afraid to fight.

Mr. Bradley also views the strike as a lesson for his students, teaching them how organizing is necessary to the health of a community. He believes it shows students how striking can improve workplace conditions and take-home pay.
The gains from the strike have not directly affected him, but rather the important people around him. For example, having an extra hour of security guard coverage guarantees more safety for students. He also said that older teachers with children are saving about $1,000 each month because the district now covers dependents on healthcare. This is extremely important, Mr. Bradley said, because more experienced teachers now have greater stability and can provide even more mentorship to younger, less experienced teachers.
He emphasized that mentorship is essential to becoming a great teacher and to sustaining the profession long-term.
