Started on Friday May 8, 2026. In the Auditorium, where every single class was watching the OLE club performance. Established by Ms Rodriguez, the themes this year were about immigration and the problems with ice and deportation through innocent people.
Here are some community members’ impressions.
Ms Rodriguez. OLE founder
What did you feel the moment you saw the students on the auditorium stage performing dances that represent their culture?
“I feel a great sense of excitement because 70% of the student body at MHS is Latino, Central American, or Hispanic. I feel empowered knowing that the students are proud of their culture. It is truly important and special that students want to showcase their heritage—this is precisely what shapes the United States. I constantly strive to encourage them to hold onto their culture; if we were to organize an assembly that lacked a powerful message regarding the significant events currently unfolding, it would risk dimming the light of our culture. However, through dance and the languages we speak, we find the very best way to declare that we are here, standing united.”

What do you feel OLE should improve more for the next year’s OLE assembly?
“I would say the messenger through the dances, the thing we always need to improve it’s the technology, and some dances that were for last minute. Due to a shortage of staff at some dances.”
Yadira Cabrera, Club adviser
What inspired you to help organize Club OLE?
“I have been involved with OLE ever since I graduated from MHS. The reason is that I felt the Latino community needed support—support to showcase our roots and our work to the public, and to share a glimpse of our culture. Furthermore, given everything currently unfolding regarding the presidency, I feel that this organization helps us remain strong; the students, in particular, help us demonstrate that strength, and that by standing together as a community, we can achieve great things.”
Do you think it was an easy or a difficult path?
“It was a very difficult path because there were many controversies, many guidelines where they told us to give up and that we could no longer do it. At the moment when I heard around the school say that the OLÉ assembly has always been one of the best, the one that always gives a very strong message and that made us move forward. Another thing was to see adults participate which helps students so that they feel calmer and more comfortable.”

Diana Vazquez Sanchez. Senior audience
What did you like most about the OLE assembly?
“Personally, what I like most are the OLE dances; however, specifically what really made me feel sentimental was the mariachi performance—especially when the mariachi group hails from Mexico—as that always tends to make me feel emotional.”
Was there anything you felt they could have improved upon?
“One thing they could have improved would be adding more dances; although the dances they did present were still beautiful, I would have preferred if they had included more dances that showcase the various cultures. In fact—if I recall correctly—they used to have a show where they displayed the traditional attire of the cultures they had featured.”
